Environmental Statement
At Coromandel Discovery we aim to:
- Provide our visitors with an excellent service and an awesome experience while demonstrating we are responsible citizens of this earth caring for people (our team and our visitors), the community and the environment;
- Be recognised both within New Zealand and internationally as being a leader in our industry in relation to sustainable practices with other businesses seeing us as a benchmark to aspire to;
- Be the operator of first choice for clients and staff that have an environmental conscience;
- Ensure we comply with all relevant environmental legislation and commit to making our environmental policies, procedures and other records available to environmental agencies and other interested parties.
We will do this by:
- Conducting an annual Sustainability Assessment which allows us to monitor environmental impacts, and put in place Action Plans to ensure we are continually seeking ways to further improve our sustainable practices;
- Having regular staff trainings sessions to ensure our entire team understands our goals and their responsibilities;
- Sharing ‘our story’ with our visitors so they can better appreciate and understand the nature of the environment that they are in and ways to minimise the impact that they may have on it.
We already pride ourselves on undertaking the following sustainable practices at Coromandel Discovery:
- Reduce our CO2 emissions through regular and thorough maintenance checks, fuel efficient driver training, use of diesel and thin grade oil;
- Being more energy efficient by switching off lights and computers when not required and replacing bulbs with eco-bulbs;
- Purchasing local products and services where possible and encouraging the suppliers we work with to develop their own sustainability plans and goals;
- We encourage all travellers to assess their carbon footprint and donate/plant a native tree to offset it at www.kauri2000.co.nz;
- We encourage all our clients to use the facilities we provide for waste disposal on tours keeping our native bush pristine;
- All clients instructed to take care of our native flora and fauna;
- Recycling all plastics, glass, tin, paper and cardboard; - Use bio degradable cleaning products in recyclable containers; - Buy goods in bulk and use proper cups, picnic rugs and tablecloths rather than disposable ones to reduce waste; - Put food scraps in our compost or feed them to the pigs; - Magnetic signage for buses/coaches – interchangeable - Staff trained to drive economically thereby reducing their carbon footprint - Native and fruit planting done by us to reduce our carbon footprint; We welcome any feedback and further suggestions …..
